CFLs are affordable & they also give out low heat compared to normal bulbs. Although I find its intensity is low, that's why I'm using light reflector with CFL's to light up comparatively larger area with good intensity. This makes my energy consumption more effective. Now days architects can really work wonders, for hiding these reflectors or designing them into lamps. :D

I think we also have to consider the wattage of the bulb you are planning to buy...this will also affects your electricity usage.

They have helped out electric bill go down drastically. My friend was paying about 70.00 a month for electric and we gave her enough of those light bulbs that now she only pays about 40.00. All in all it's been a great investiment for us and we recommend them to all our friends. You do have to take precautions when they go out or break and you have to dispose of them at a CFL or mercury recycling center, something like a hardware store or even your local garbage disposal service.
