Replenishing Old Wood

Replenishing Old Wood

Postby lgalatea » Tue Jan 05, 2010 2:54 pm

We have some great wood trim that is very old. I don't want to finish it with something artificial but some areas are faded. I'd love to have it look like rich old wood throughout, but don't know what to treat it with to make it look even without looking redone. Hope that makes sense.

I would try and use some murphys oil soap or something like it on the wood and see what color it brings it too, sometimes it will bring out the color a bit more while it cleans it. If that doesn't work try and using some soap and water on it and then using mineral oil that seems to do the trick for me on our hardwood.

Have you got any idea what was on it before? Wax, oil, varnish or paint?
